What credentials and specializations are available in the Marketo Certification Program?
Marketo offers the Marketo Certified Expert (MCE) credential as the first step in the Certification program. Specialist designations are available to extend the MCE credential.
How do I earn a Marketo Certification or Specialization?
Marketo Certification is earned by successfully passing the Marketo Certified Expert exam. Marketo Specialist designations are earned by passing the Marketo Specialization assessments.
Is the Marketo Certification Program open to the public?
Marketo Certification credentials and Specialization designations are currently available exclusively to Marketo customers and partners.
Is there a practice exam for the new MCE Exam?
No. However, we now have a new MCE Prep Course available and MCE Sample Questions for review.
How long do Marketo Certification credentials and Specialist designations last?
Prior to March 5, 2017, the Marketo Certified Expert exam credential was valid for one year from issue date.
The new Marketo Certified Expert 2017 exam credential is valid for two years from issue date.
Marketo Specializations have no expiration date.
Does Marketo still offer the Certified Revenue Cycle Analyst credential?
No. The Marketo Certified Revenue Cycle Analyst examination was retired on December 31, 2016. Current Certified Revenue Cycle Analyst credential holders or those who were certified before the exam was retired will have an active and recognized credential until Dec. 31, 2017. On Dec. 31, 2017, the Certified Revenue Cycle Analyst credential will be completely retired.
How can I let others know of my Certification and Specialist status?
With the Marketo Certified Expert credential and each Marketo Specialist designation, you’ll receive an electronic certificate of achievement and official designation in the Marketo Marketing Nation Community. Marketo additionally provides a Marketo Certified logo that can be used on business cards and on networking sites to showcase your achievement.
Is there a proper sequence for acquiring Certification and Specializations?
You must be MCE certified before you can take the Marketo Specialization assessments.

With the constant evolution of Digital Marketing best practices and Marketo software, there is a need to update the Certification exams and Specialization assessments in order to maintain the integrity of the Certification Program.
How do I register for the Certification exams and/or Specialization assessments?
You can register for the Marketo Certified Expert exam and the Marketo Specialization assessments through WebAssessor at www.webassessor.com/marketo.
How much does it cost to take a Certification exam or a Specialization Assessment?
The Marketo Certification Expert exam is priced at $225 USD. It is the same price to re-take an exam and/or for recertification.
The Marketo Specialization assessments are priced at $25 USD. It is the same price to re-take an assessment.
Where can I take the Marketo Certified Expert Exam?
The Marketo Certified Expert exam is administered and proctored through Kryterion. You can take your Marketo Certification exam online using Kryterion’s remote proctoring technology (more information). Or, you can take the exam in person at any of Kryterion’s testing centers worldwide (list of centers).
What do I need to take the Marketo Certified Expert exam online?
Create a free Test Taker account with Kryterion and perform a quick system check to make sure that your computer, internet connection, microphone, and webcam meet the specifications for online proctoring. You can find information on Kryterion’s remote proctoring program here.
Why do I need to use a webcam to take the Marketo Certified Expert exam?
Exams are proctored to ensure the security and defensibility of our certification programs. All test takers are monitored by Kryterion’s trained proctors.
Do I need to use an external webcam to take the Marketo Certified Expert Exam?
No. You can use your computer’s internal webcam.
How do I take a Marketo Specialization assessment?
To take a Marketo Specialization, login to WebAssessor at www.webassessor.com/marketo, then select and pay for the desired Specialization Exam. You’ll then be able to launch the exam.
Are Marketo Specialization assessments proctored and do I need a webcam?
No. The Specialization assessments are not proctored. You will not need to use a webcam to take the Specialization assessments.
What is the format and time limit for Certification exams and Specialization assessments?
The Marketo Certified Expert exam is composed of 75 multiple choice questions and must be completed within 90 minutes.
The Marketo Specialization Exams are composed of approximately 25-30 multiple choice questions and must be completed within 60 minutes.
Can I use notes or study materials during the Certification exams or Specialization assessments?
No. You may not reference study materials, notes, or use your Marketo instance during the exam.
I do not live in the United States. Can I be certified in my country?
Yes. The Marketo Certification program is available to Marketo users globally.
Are the exams offered in different languages?
The Marketo Certified Expert exam is offered in English and Japanese.
Marketo Specialization exams are offered in English.
What are the policies regarding rescheduling, cancellations, absences, and refunds for the Marketo Certified Exam?
You can reschedule your exam through WebAssessor (www.webassessor.com/marketo). You must reschedule at least 72 hours prior to your currently scheduled exam time for all onsite tests. You must reschedule at least 24 hours prior to your currently scheduled exam for all online tests. No refunds are given for cancellation, absences, uncompleted, or incomplete exams.
What are the policies regarding rescheduling, cancellations, absences, and refunds for the Specialization assessments?
Specialization assessments are available upon payment. There are no refunds or exchanges for unused assessments.

What is the passing score on Marketo Certification exams and Specialization assessments?
The passing score on Marketo Certified Expert 2017 exam is 70%.
The passing score on Marketo Specialization assessments is 75%.
How long does it take to get my exam or assessment results?
Results are provided immediately upon completion of the exam or assessment. You will be given your score, pass/fail notification and a breakdown of your results by section.
Assessment exams will provide a pass/fail report immediately upon completion.
What if I don’t pass?
If it’s your first or second attempt, you’ll need to wait two weeks before attempting the exam again. If it’s your third or greater attempt, you’ll need to wait six weeks before retaking the exam. You can take the exam as many times as you need, but you’ll have to pay the full price for each attempt.

How often do I need to recertify?
The Marketo Certified Expert 2017 credential requires recertification every two years. The Specialist credential does not have a recertification requirement.
Please note if you took the previous version of the Marketo Certified Expert Exam the recertification period remains one year. The two year recertification period only applies to the New Certified Expert 2017 exam.
When should I recertify?
You can take the new certification exam up to 30 days before the anniversary date of your original certification and up to 2 weeks after that date.
How do I know if I need to recertify?
Marketo will send you email notifications that your Marketo Certified Expert credential is nearing expiration and/or when recertification is required.
What happens if my certification lapses?
If you do not recertify at the required time, you will lose your status and benefits. Until you recertify you may not use the Certification logo or refer to yourself as Marketo Certified. You will also no longer appear in the Expert Finder in the Marketing Nation Community.
